NoliFest celebrates paddling in Erwin

Camping and rafting at USA Raft. NoliFest 2019 kicked off Friday at USA Raft found in Erwin, featuring whitewater rafting, kayaking and canoeing. The festival as well features a gear swap, foodstuff trucks, crafts, outdoor education plus much more.

The festival is the major on the Nolichucky, according to Jack Nelson, Hala Gear representative and OPERATE Paddle board instructor. Nelson possesses gone to every NoliFest, and appears onward to the added outdoor education part this year. He stated the river is meant to end up being “big” this weekend and that the function is extra for paddlers but still includes a great lineup for music.

“This year there is likely to be much more things that exist,” Nelson said. “Anybody that really wants to arrive paddle can. You will have paddle boards, one-wheels, walking trails, the NOLI (Nolichucky Outdoor Learning Institute) will teach persons how to benefit from the outdoors in a secure way. There will be music every evening of the festival in the brand new stage at USA Raft. The lineup contains Duchess of Burl, Doctor Ocular, Big Just like the Sea, Stateline Shoals and Brushfire Stankgrass.

Foodstuff trucks and vendors were create and setting up Thursday prior to the festival, like the Caribbean Grill. Ray Ingersoll and Carol Veilleux of No cost Bird Concessions were the first birds and ready for organization. Ingersoll said that he's pumped up about the camaraderie, persons and environment of NoliFest.

This is the vendor’s first-time to NoliFest, but Ingersoll said they are excited after Sol Slam. He was on the river early in the day Thursday, but Veilleux jokingly explained she and her partner were too previous for that now.

“The river rocks ! and the water is ideal at this time,” Ingersoll said. “It will rain this weekend, but we've had rainfall showers before, and that's All right. I am anxious to start to see the equipment swap. I haven’t noticed that before. Pumped up about hearing the music too.”

Veilleux said that she actually is mainly looking towards the music. She expectations to sell a whole lot of food, of program. The vendor produced the trip up from Spartanburg, SC. They heard about the event from a niece who functions at USA Raft.

First-time festivalgoers were also present Thursday. Mason Daniel made a vacation down from Fayetteville, West Virginia. He said he found out about the function while previously camping and rafting at USA Raft.

“I am hoping to meet up a lot of fresh paddlers from the South area,” Daniel said. “We don’t drop to NEW YORK or Tennessee much, hence we are wishing to meet some persons that are looking to appear to West Virginia and raft there.”

Daniel added that the river is quite level-dependent but fun for everybody. It has enthusiasm if that’s what you’re seeking for, he said, nonetheless it appears secure enough for all.

Organizers said NoliFest is relatives- and pet-friendly but parking is tight, thus they asked people to carpool whenever you can. The event begins Friday and operates all weekend.
